The destination · Premium

Remission is real. Now it’s a journey you can follow.

In 2024, gout experts from around the world came together to define what gout remission means. The group is called G-CAN, the Gout, Hyperuricemia and Crystal-Associated Disease Network. Their definition is three criteria, all true at once:

  1. No flares for 12 months in a row

  2. Uric acid below 6.0 mg/dL for 12 months

  3. Zero tophi no crystal lumps under the skin

The maker of Flarebreak participated in those working sessions, and the Remission Journey is built on those decisions. Every criterion is counted from what you already log. No extra work, just the truth about where you stand.

See the pattern

Catch the trigger you keep forgetting.

Log a flare while it’s happening: the dates, the exact joint on a body diagram, how bad it hurts, what you think set it off. After a few months, the connections you couldn’t hold in your head are sitting on a chart.

See the six trigger options
  • Injury to the joint
  • Dehydration
  • Medication change
  • Increased meat consumption
  • Increased seafood consumption
  • Change in alcohol consumption
  • A 36-point body diagram to pinpoint the exact joint
  • Pain, symptoms, triggers, and notes in one log
  • Add photos and voice memos to document the swelling (Premium)
Flarebreak uric acid chart: readings falling from 8.8 to 5.4 mg/dL across the dashed 6.0 goal line, marked At goal.

The goal line

Watch your uric acid bend toward goal.

Log a reading and it lands on the chart against the 6.0 mg/dL goal line, the level the American College of Rheumatology recommends staying under. You stop wondering whether things are improving; the chart answers it.
  • mg/dL or µmol/L, from home tests or clinic results
  • Insights: your average and how often you’re at goal
  • A clean graph you can hand straight to your doctor

Questions

Common questions about Flarebreak

Flarebreak is a mobile app for people living with gout. You can track your flares, log your uric acid and weight, ask the built-in Coach questions in plain language, and follow your progress toward remission.

In 2024, gout experts from around the world (the Gout, Hyperuricemia and Crystal-Associated Disease Network, G-CAN) reached a consensus definition of gout remission: no flares for 12 months, uric acid below 6.0 mg/dL for 12 months, and zero tophi, all three at once. Flarebreak’s Remission Journey tracks all three from what you log.

Tracking your flares, uric acid, weight, and tophi is free, along with the Flare Care Plan and your first Coach questions and lessons. An optional Premium tier unlocks the full 34-lesson course, unlimited Coach questions, the Remission Journey status, and the Appointment Diary. Flarebreak is available now on the App Store and Google Play, with a 7-day free trial of Premium.

Two ways. The Coach answers your questions in plain language and My Gout Lessons explains how gout works across 34 short lessons, while the flares and uric acid you log turn into personal patterns you can see, so you walk into appointments ready to talk about them.

Your flares (dates, the exact joint, pain, symptoms, and triggers), your uric acid, your weight, and your tophi count, all on simple graphs. The Appointment Diary keeps your notes and questions ready for your next visit, and the Remission Journey tracks your progress toward remission.

No. Flarebreak offers educational content and tracking tools to support you and your care team. It is not a substitute for advice from your own doctor, and you should always follow your doctor’s guidance.
